Colorado stood out as one of the best states to live in 2020

As we reflect back on 2020, we are reminded of the many challenges that the year presented. Although Colorado, as well as the rest of the country, has faced hardships, our home has garnered the attention of the media throughout the past year for all of the right reasons. From being recognized as one of the best states for socially distant activities to containing some of the country’s healthiest cities in which to live, Colorado has generated some serious star power in the eyes of the media and the consumer.

Denver Metro has been known to be a resilient city since the recession struck in 2008. During that time, the Mile High City was one of the first to bounce back, according to the Metro Denver EDC. But more recently in May of 2020, Forbes predicted that Denver would be among the top ten cities in the U.S. that would be best positioned to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The article states that Denver, which was ranked as second behind Boise, Idaho, is “well-positioned to retake its crown as one of the fastest-rising metro areas in the U.S.”

As far as health is concerned, Colorado stands out from the rest of the country. In an article from Today, Colorado snagged six of the top 10 spots on the list of the healthiest counties in the U.S. County rankings were based on 84 health and health-related metrics in 10 categories, including population health; food and nutrition; public safety and the environment. Douglas County claimed the No. 2 spot on the list, topped only by Los Alamos County, New Mexico. Broomfield County (No.4), Routt County (No. 5), Pitkin County (No. 7), Summit County (No.9), and San Miguel County (No.10) were also included within the top 10 list.

Thanks to Denver Metro’s desirable attributes, the area has become a hot spot for buying and selling homes. CNBC covered the story of how extreme demand for Colorado homes has made Denver Metro’s housing market one of the most competitive in America. Within the article, CNBC explains that although new listings have been coming onto the market to help bolster the low inventory of available homes, “[it is] no match for the intense demand.” This demand has fueled the surge in homebuying over the last year.

Furthermore, two of Colorado’s cities topped Business Insider’s list of the 50 best places to live in America. Colorado Springs, a city that has seen a boom in real estate activity over the last year, was ranked as the third best place to live in the country.

Placing second out of 50 communities is none other than our own City of Denver. The area’s access to the outdoors makes it atop destination for those looking for a change of scenery. Both of these communities have become known as fantastic examples of “Zoom towns,” which are markets that have spiked in real estate activity as remote work becomes the new norm.
